This is one of the best trekking programmes that can be carried out in the Peruvian Andes.
The Cordillera Huayhuash is a relatively unknown Cordillera, located in one of the most remote and beautiful regions of the Andean Cordillera. It is considered to be one of the most spectacular mountain treks in the world. The route (180 Km) around the impressive “Cordillera Huayhuash” (which is 30 Km long) rewards us with the most splendid landscapes on earth: beautiful Andean grasslands surrounded by defiant mountains that reach heights above 6,000m, beautiful lakes where the mountains are reflected, narrow valleys that confirm the Peruvian Andes steep relief, offering us in one small range seven of the highest Peruvian Andes dramatic summits.
DAY 1: HUARAZ (3,100 M) – PACLLON (3,350M) BUS 5H- PACLLON – CORRALPAMPA (4,200 M) 3H
From Huaraz City, we departure by road south to Callejón de Huaylas, overlooking the snowy peaks of Cordillera Blanca to reach to Querococha lagoon (70 km), from where we take a detour to the east crossing Pampa Lamas by a dirty road until to Mojón, continuing to reach Chiquián (3h), with a beautiful landscape of Huayhuash Mountains, with a short break in Chiquián, continuing to small town of Pacllón, where we start the trekking (3.350 masl) (2h). Here we´ll get in touch to our team: guides, cookers, support staff, etc, where donkeys carry on our luggage uphill, to begin our slow ascent in this first day. Arrival to Corralpampa (3.800m) (3h) and camping in this place.
DAY 2: CORRALPAMPA – JAHUACOCHA (4.050 M) 5H
We continúan the trekking to reach to Yaucha with beautiful views of Cordillera Blanca (Rondoy, Ninashanca, Hirishanca, Yerupaja Chico, Yerupaja grande, Rasac, Siula, Sacra, between others). Then, descent to Jahuacocha lagoon, where we will be camping (4,050m)2h, surrounded by nicest view between mountains.
DAY 3: JAHUACOCHA – SAMBUNYA – MATACANCHA (4.000 M) 6H
Free morning to rest and enjoy this beautiful place. After, continuing the trek by shores of Jahuacocha lagoon and after one hour reach to Solterocoha lagoon, where we´ll ascent until Sambunya (4,750 m), with other views of others angles of Cordillera Blanca. Then, descent to Matacancha to camping (4,100m) 2h.
DAY 4: MATACANCHA – LLAMAC (3.300 m) 1h – LLAMAC – CHIQUIAN (3.300 m) 2h – CHIQUIAN – HUARAZ (3.100 m) 3h
Our car will pick us this last day to return to Huaraz city. By coach, we´ll descent by Palca mine, trough the Pocpa town, we´ll reach to Llamac (1h) and continuing to Chiquián (2h), a short stop in this place and then continuing to Huaraz city (3h)
